The GMOEA's Environmental Monitoring Committee looks into various matters related to the environment. In the past few years there has been considerable environmental awareness in the mining industry. This is evident from the lush green vegetation on the reclaimed slopes of dumps, and other area used for mining and allied activity. Some companies for eg. Sesa Goa Ltd., have set up their own laboratories for monitoring the environment. To prevent dust pollution water tankers are used to spray water at regular intervals to suppress the dust on a mining road.
Besides, the mining companies with the Indian Bureau of Mines have a Mines Environment Council, which appraises and awards the mines for environment protection measures taken at the respective mining sites. The exporters are also promoters of the Mineral Foundation of Goa, which will undertake environment and socio economic development to the mining belts.
